R/C Sport Scale Aerobatic Biplane .. .
LaMar Steen was an R/C flyer for several years before designing and building his orig-
inal full-scale SKYBOET in 1972. Since then, over 100 of these beautiful 2-place
biplanes have taken to the air under the guidance of adventurous sport pilots like
singer John Denver. They like the SKYBOLT'S unlimited aerobatic potential and sta-
ble, easy-to-handle flight characteristics. It's one of the most successful homebuilt
biplanes ever designed. This sport scale version of Steen's SKYBOET inherits the
same classy looks and great flight performance. Difficult free-style gyrations and the
full slate of aerobatic maneuvers are routine for this model. You can build the model
SKYBOET with single ailerons (on bottom wings only) for normal R/C sport flying, or Speci/ications:
with scale-like double ailerons (on both top and bottom wings) for a super quick roll Engines: .60 cu. in. 2-Stroke

SMITH (~InIPLfl~f
R/C Sport Scale Biplane .. .
Historically, the SMITH MINIPLANE is one of the designs that helped start the modern
homebuilding era. Originally designed and built in 1957 by Frank Smith of Fullerton,
California, the MINIPLANE was an early example of engineering with the amateur
homebuilder and weekend pilot in mind. It could be constructed with tools easily within
reach of the average craftsman, and in the air it was stable and easy to fly. The top
wing spanned 17 ft., and the empty weight was a mere 600 pounds. Powered by a
100hp Lycoming, the tiny MINIPLANE cruised at 120 mph, climbed at a fantastic
2,500 ft. per minute, and was highly aerobatic. It was just what many sportsman pilots
were looking for!
In 1974, Glen Sigafoose, then President of Sig Mfg. Co., acquired a com- Specifications:

and black aircraft was the inspiration for this mini version of the MINIPLANE. Top Wingspan: 44 inches

1/6th-Scale R/C Biplane...
The full-scale LIBERTY SPORT is a one-of-a-kind homebuilt designed by
long-time model builder Orval Lloyd. It was built by him and his brother, Liberty
(hence the name Liberty Sport) in their garage in Mesa, Arizona. The 2-place
aerobatic craft first flew in 1965 and has won numerous awards over the years ~
at airshows and EAA fly-ins. Its 1930's-style Air Corps paint scheme and
gracefully curved lines, make the LIBERTY SPORT areal standout on the
flight line. When noted R/C scale competitor Dick Graham first saw the LIBER-
TY SPORT on display at the '68 AMA Nats, he new that it was a model that
had to be built.
This model is a precise miniature of the original LIBERTY SPORT, every out-
line is exact scale. Traditional balsa construction yields an airframe that is both
light and strong. Best of all, the flying characteristics of this scale two-winger 1st Scale 1975 Nationals by Cathy Burnstine
are excellent. It's smooth, stable, and responsive. This is one scale airplane
that flies like a sport model!
